Goal Setting Tips & Advice


There are two ways to put ourselves in control of our lives immediately. We can make a promise – and keep it. Or we can set a goal – and work to achieve it.

Goal: an ideal, a desired place toward which people work; 
a state of affairs that people value. 
Think S.M.A.R.T.
Specific  It is great to have a clear concise title to your goal, but you should also describe it in more detail. This answers questions such as; how much, for whom, for what?  For example Buy a Car could be described with Save $20,000, and search for a red Four-door sedan, with leather seats.
Measurable  Try to write a goal that you can measure numerically. Instead of Sell more products, maybe write something like Increase personal sales by 30%. A goal can be much more motivating if you can track and record your progress, and see how you are doing.
Achievable/Realistic  Can your goal really be done? Think not only about the goal, but about your personal circumstances. 
Timely  How much time will you have to put in on a regular basis to achieve this goal? How long from now do you plan to achieve this goal (includes realistic timeframes).

Think positive.  Your brain responds better to positive words.

Write them down. Make your goal visible so that you can have daily reminders to stay focused. Probably one of the most important and most ignored step to effective goal setting is to write it down! Writing your goals and reviewing them daily will give your mind sub-conscious cues that what your reading is important, and will help you succeed. 

Also, when you lay in bed trying to fall asleep, mentally go through your goals and think about 3 things you have done recently that have helped you in one area, and 3 things that you would like to do soon to help you get closer to achieving your goals.

Be precise when setting your goal. Give your goal a deadline and give your goal dates, amounts, times, etc. so that you can measure your progress.

Make an action plan. So you have set goals, written them down and now you are all set to start working towards achieving them. First step - make an action plan.  Identify how you are going to accomplish your goal. This is important. Anyone can set a goal but not everyone can accomplish a goal.  You must identify how you are going to reach your goal.  Anticipate any roadblocks that may come along and find ways to overcome those roadblocks.


Track progress. This is extremely important. If you don't track progress, you don't get an idea if you are going the right way and if you would ever achieve it in the time frame you had set in your mind. So track your progress everyday. 
Keep going. Regardless of the obstacles that may hold you back, keep pushing your way towards successful achievement of your goal.



This book, My Life List, was given to me as a present two christmases ago and I am absolutely 
obsessed with it and cherish it.  I am one of those people who make little lists everyday.  
My daily, weekly, and monthly life is very organized and prioritized 
from the most specific to the least specific.  
Creating these lists have really helped me to achieve so much; I can honestly say that if I did not 
write out - what was on my mind, my obligations, priorities, dreams, and ambitions then I do not know
where I would be and what I would have accomplished.  My life is constantly busy, 
I am always working on my personal self, spending time with friends & family, school studies, 
work/business projects, donating my time to volunteer and supporting 
those causes which are close to my heart.  
My mother always has said, "Ever since you were born you were constantly on the go
 chasing new adventures and pursuing your dreams."
In my eyes, life is meant to be spent doing all that you enjoy and love.  
For me, my life is to do and serve unto others.  My hope is to educate, inspire, transform and empower
 this generation and the many generations to come.
